First Sign-Ups for a Developer Tool: Outreach to Engineers, SEO and Docs
By Art Freebrey · October 15, 2026 · 4 min read
Revnu gets a developer tool its first sign-ups through the channels engineers trust. It writes tutorials that rank for the exact problems your tool solves, opens pull requests to your docs, reaches engineers whose stack fits, and drafts the launch posts you share yourself. Your first sequence waits for your approval, so you can check its technical claims before it reaches a developer in your name; set Start Sequences to Ask Me First to keep checking later ones.
What do founders ask for?
"Get developers to try our CLI. We have stars but no sign-ups."
"Write tutorials that rank for people trying to do what our library does."
"Email platform engineers at companies that run Postgres at scale."
"Write our Show HN post."
How does Revnu run it?
It learns the product. Revnu reads your site and docs, and your repo if you connect GitHub in Connections > Learn Your Business. What it learns goes into Memory, which you can read and correct in Settings > Memory.
It writes tutorials that rank. Posts are shaped like docs: a real problem, real commands, real output. They target the specific phrasing a developer types when stuck, not "best developer tool". They reach your site as pull requests to your repo, through the Content API, or on a Revnu-hosted blog.
It reaches engineers who fit. Revnu finds companies whose stack, hiring or recent work suggests they hit the problem you solve, picks the engineer or lead who owns it, and writes a short note that refers to something true about them. On Pro, Revnu sends up to 50 emails a day and 20 an hour from each Gmail or Outlook inbox you connect.
It drafts the launch posts. Show HN, Reddit, X and LinkedIn drafts written for each audience. Revnu drafts posts for LinkedIn, X, Threads, Bluesky, Reddit and Hacker News and sends you a share link; you tap it and post from your own account. Revnu doesn't publish them for you.
It tests ads small. Once a page converts, Revnu can test ads on Google, Meta, LinkedIn, X, Reddit, Microsoft and TikTok, from your own ad accounts, inside a budget you approve.
What waits for your approval?
The first sequence, always. After that, your Start Sequences setting decides.
Pull requests, because you merge them.
Any ad budget, always.
Blog posts, if you set Blog Posts to Ask Me First in Settings > Agent. On Pro it starts as Just Do It, so switch it if you want to check every technical claim first.
What can't Revnu do here?
No posting to communities. Revnu drafts Hacker News, Reddit and X posts. You post them.
No community management. It doesn't answer GitHub issues, Discord or Slack community threads.
No consumer leads. It reaches engineers at companies, not hobbyists by personal email.
No pushing to main. Changes to your repo are always pull requests.
What will you see?
Visibility > Posts lists each tutorial, drafted or live.
Pull requests in your repo, each with a description of what changed and why.
Leads shows each engineer, their company and why Revnu picked them.
A Monday roll-up with what went live and one number against last week.

Questions
How does Revnu market a developer tool?
Through the channels engineers actually use. It writes tutorial-style posts aimed at the exact problems developers search for, opens pull requests to your docs or blog repo, sends short researched emails and LinkedIn notes to engineers whose stack fits your tool, and drafts launch posts for you to share. Small ad tests come once you have something that converts.
Can Revnu post to Hacker News or Reddit for me?
Revnu drafts your Hacker News and Reddit posts and sends you a share link, so each one goes out from your own account with one tap. Commenting in Reddit threads is open to some accounts, and every comment waits for your approval.
Can Revnu write to my docs site?
If your docs or blog live in a GitHub repo you connect, Revnu opens pull requests with new pages and fixes. It never pushes to your main branch, so nothing merges until you merge it. Otherwise posts reach your site through the Content API or a Revnu-hosted blog.
Can I run Revnu from my terminal or my coding agent?
Yes. There is a CLI (@revnu/cli), an MCP server you can add to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code, and a REST API. They read results, answer review cards and message Revnu. Sends and posts still go through your approval settings.
