Instantly vs Revnu: Sending Infrastructure or a Growth Employee?
By Art Freebrey · July 6, 2026 · 10 min read
In May 2025, Google quietly ended an era. It shut off the simple app-password route that most cold-email warmup tools depended on, and six months later began rejecting non-compliant bulk mail at the protocol level. If you want to understand Instantly, both the product and the risk, start there: it is the best-run company in a channel whose landlord keeps raising the rent.
Instantly and Revnu both touch cold email, which is why founders compare them, but they occupy different layers of the problem. Instantly is infrastructure: the cheapest, most pleasant way to send high volumes of cold email across many inboxes. Revnu is an employee: an agent that runs every growth channel, of which carefully-paced email outreach is one. The verdict up front: if volume cold email is your business, as it is for the agencies that make up Instantly's core, the infrastructure is best in class. If you are a founder trying to grow a product, you are shopping in the wrong aisle, and the aisle itself is getting riskier.
What Instantly actually is
Instantly's founding move was breaking the per-seat pricing model. Connect unlimited mailboxes on one subscription, warm them automatically against a large warmup pool, rotate sends across them, and volume cold email stops requiring an enterprise contract. Sending plans run roughly $47 to $358 a month, and around that core the company has bootstrapped a whole suite: a 450M+ contact lead database sold on separate credits, a CRM at about $97 a month, AI reply handling, inbox placement testing, and done-for-you pre-warmed email accounts. Realistic all-in spend for a serious operation lands in the $180 to $475 a month range. By late 2024 the company reported roughly $20 million in annual revenue, bootstrapped, which deserves respect: they found a real market and served it well.
The reviews split in a telling way. On G2 the rating is stellar across thousands of reviews, and the consistent praise is the interface: this is genuinely the most pleasant tool in the category to operate. Off G2 the picture is more mixed, with recurring operator reports of warmup dashboards showing healthy scores while live campaigns land in spam, done-for-you domains dying within weeks, and support that leads with a bot. Both pictures can be true at once: a lovely product operating in a hostile environment.
When Instantly earns its cost
The honest concession: for the customer it was built for, nothing is cheaper per email sent. Agencies running outbound as a service, and companies whose motion genuinely is high-volume cold email with a proven list and message, get category-best economics and the least painful operations. If your business model is sending, Instantly is a rational, even obvious, purchase. The unlimited-mailbox pricing was a real innovation and the market rewarded it fairly.
The profile that fits is narrow, though: you already know cold email converts for you, you have the volume to justify multiple inboxes, and someone at your company owns the strategy, the list, the copy, and the reply handling. Instantly assumes all of that. It is a very good engine that arrives without a driver.
The honest limit
Three layers of limit, from operational to structural.
Operational: the deliverability arms race is real and Instantly is on the losing side of the power dynamic. Google's 2025 crackdowns were aimed squarely at the mechanics volume senders rely on, and whether warmup still works at all is now openly contested; the vendors say yes, independent skeptics publish tests saying no. You do not need to referee that fight to price the risk: cold email stopped being a volume game years ago, and the platforms are enforcing that fact at the protocol level now.
Economic: Instantly's revenue scales with emails sent. The lead database sells on credits, the plans tier on volume, and nothing anywhere in the product's economics benefits from you sending fewer, better emails, even when that is exactly what your results are begging for. Infrastructure is never going to tell you to use less of it.
Structural: it is one channel, and the channel is an input you chose. Instantly cannot notice that your market ignores cold email but converts through content, that the objection recurring in replies should become your landing page headline, or that this quarter's budget would return three times more in SEO or ads. It is a sending machine. Whether to send, to whom, saying what, remains entirely, permanently, you.
The reframe: infrastructure vs employee
The comparison resolves cleanly once you name the layer. Infrastructure scales a decision you already made: cold email, this list, this message, this volume. An employee helps you make the decision, then executes it wherever it lands. Founders keep buying infrastructure hoping it contains an employee, and it never does; that is how you end up with a stack of tools and nobody running them, sending 500 emails a day into a channel nobody validated.
Revnu's relationship to cold email is deliberately the opposite of volume-shaped. It researches a narrow list, writes like a person, sends at a human pace from your own domain setup, and treats every reply as data that feeds the other channels, one loop across all of them. Your first sequence waits for your yes, replies to prospects always wait, and you choose in Settings > Agent what else asks first. That is the product design, not a compliance checkbox: an employee who shows you its first work before it runs on its own. If the market says email is not your channel, that lesson costs you a small experiment, not a warmup farm.
The honest verdict
Choose Instantly if sending is your business: an agency running outbound as a service, or a company with a proven high-volume email motion and a human who owns the strategy. It is the best infrastructure in its category, priced fairly, and the interface will make your operator's day nicer. Go in with clear eyes about the platform risk, because Google is not going to stop.
Choose Revnu if you are a founder whose actual problem is customers, not throughput. You do not need twenty warmed inboxes; you need to find out which channel your market answers on, and then to show up there consistently with someone doing the work. That is an employee's job. The infrastructure question only becomes interesting after the employee proves email is your lane, and at founder volumes, done right, you may never need a sending farm at all.
The uncomfortable truth about volume tooling is that it makes the wrong strategy cheaper to execute at scale. Before you buy capacity, make sure something, or someone, has done the finding. See what Revnu runs on the features page and let the channels prove themselves before you industrialize one.

Questions
What does Instantly actually do?
Instantly is cold email infrastructure. Its core is unlimited connected mailboxes with automated warmup, so agencies and volume senders can run campaigns across many inboxes without per-seat pricing. Around that core it has grown a suite: a 450M+ contact lead database sold on credits, a CRM, AI reply handling, deliverability testing, and done-for-you email accounts. Sending plans run roughly $47 to $358 a month, with the lead database and other modules priced separately.
Does email warmup still work in 2026?
It is genuinely contested. Google shut down the app-password route that warmup tools relied on in May 2025 and began protocol-level rejection of non-compliant bulk mail in late 2025, and Microsoft has tightened in parallel. Warmup vendors have responded with their own infrastructure and pre-warmed accounts. Skeptics, including competitors, publish tests claiming warmup no longer moves inbox placement. The honest summary: the arms race is real, the outcome is unsettled, and betting your growth on winning it is a risk you should price in.
Is Instantly good for a startup founder?
It depends on what job you are hiring it for. As sending infrastructure for a proven outbound motion, it is the cheapest option in the category and the interface is genuinely pleasant. But it supplies no strategy: you pick the ICP, buy the list credits, write the copy, and interpret the replies. A founder who has not yet proven that cold email is their channel is buying volume capacity for a channel that may not be theirs, in the middle of a deliverability crackdown.
What is the difference between Instantly and an AI growth agent?
Instantly is infrastructure for one channel: it makes sending high volumes of cold email cheap and manageable. An AI growth agent decides what to run, does the work in search, outbound and ads, moves effort toward what your market responds to, and you approve what ships. One scales a decision you already made; the other helps you find out whether that decision was right.
Where does Revnu's cold email send from?
Cold email goes from inboxes Revnu sets up and warms on lookalike domains, which you approve first and which take days to weeks to warm. You can connect your own Gmail to start the same day, and LinkedIn messages go from your own account. The warmed inboxes send on a paced ramp. Your own Gmail isn't on that ramp; once you approve a sequence, its emails send without asking again.
